Troop 12

2008 Christmas Tree Pick Up Fundraiser

The holidays are fast approaching and so is our major fundraiser!

We need your help to make this year’s fundraiser a success!

What is This Fundraiser About?

This is our major fundraiser for Troop 12. The monies collected goes to a general supplies fund and helps to cover the operating costs of the Troop.  This fundraiser usually brings in approximately $2500.00 and is a valuable experience for the Scouts.  It takes a lot to run a Troop of our size, with the many activities that we do, so it is critical that the Scouts are a part of the efforts to bring in more money.

Who Participates?

It is considered mandatory for all Scouts to participate. Since our goal is to distribute approximately 6000 flyers, we need all the boys to be there!

When are the Events Taking Place?

There are three dates involved to make this fundraiser a success:

December 8, 2008 - We will assemble the flyers at our regular Scout meeting.

December 13, 2008 – From our base at the church, we will distribute the flyers to neighboring homes, starting 9:00 a.m. and continuing until we are finished, usually about 4:00 p.m.

January 10, 2009 – Starting at 9:00 a.m., we will pick up trees that have been placed at the curb and take them to the recycling site at Rolland Moore Park.  We will have our base set up at Rolland Moore on this day.  Those participating in Merit Badge University in the morning will join the pick up after they are done with MBU. We usually finish by 4:00 p.m.

Where Do We Distribute the Flyers?

To neighborhood homes close to the church, and some areas designated from previous years.

What Do the Boys Wear?

For the distribution of flyers, Class A Full Uniform is required, but please consider the weather and dress appropriately.  Bring water and a lunch.

For tree pick-up day, wear clothing that can get soiled or sappy and also dress appropriately for the weather.  Bring gloves and water and a lunch if you are starting in the morning.  If you are joining from MBU, eat, change into other clothing and join us as soon as possible!

How Can I Help?

We need coordinators and lots of drivers for Distribution Day and for Tree Pick Up Day.  The following offer a brief description of position descriptions…

Distribution Day Coordinators(s) – This person is basically home base coordinator.  You will coordinate the boys and drivers, make sure we have enough flyers and envelopes, and make sure all the areas targeted have received flyers. This can be a shared responsibility as well!

Tree Pick Up Day Coordinator(s) – This person coordinates securing trailers and drivers for pick up day.  They will be home base coordinator at Rolland Moore Park and will make sure all the areas that we originally distributed flyers to, have been canvassed for trees.  This person will also need to field calls for missed trees.

Please Note:  The committee and parents are responsible for ensuring that this fundraiser is a success, but a lot of help is needed this year!  Please read on to see how you can help…

Please Contact Sara Whicker for more information

or to be a coordinator!
